During the last 4 decades, the basin of the Rhone River, upstream of Lake Leman in Switzerland, has suffered three major floods that have caused significant damage due to its overflow. For this reason, the development and implementation of the MINERVE system was put in place, in order to improve hydrometeorological information during floods, taking into account the network of reservoirs and existing hydropower plants.
This article presents an analysis of a basin of this system, called Grande-Eau, with an area of 153.9 km2 and an altitude that varies from 378 to 3’200 m asl.. The hydrological model has been calibrated with different input data and different procedures to study how the quality of the model improves. The spatialized precipitation provides a substantial improvement in the results during periods of heavy rainfall, while the observed snow cover provides a partial improvement in some periods of the year.
